Language Arts: Alchemical Amalgams with Henry Long

In this workshop, we will work in selected pairs to create an amalgam poem. That is to say, the

collaboration of a poem where one begins the poem and another ends it. We will explore the gift of

randomness, of catching ideas, and experiment with William Burroughs’ cut-up technique and theories of

The Third Mind*.

The workshop will encourage the imagination, question long-held notions of narrative coherence, and
